We have identified a surplus in the budget!

We have been working with our state partners to examine the Livingston Parish Schools operating budget to get an initial sense of our financial stability as a district. We are pleased to report that we believe we have identified enough surplus non-restricted funding to provide teachers and support staff with a modest stipend. While not a raise, we believe that this is the least that the Board can do to begin the process of rebuilding goodwill towards the school staff, and the community as a whole.

In addition to this stipend, we are also asking that LFT be represented on the School Board’s new Cost Savings Task Force charged with finding a solution to teacher pay raises. LFT has an important perspective to offer and as a union, we are beholden only to our members. Ensuring that non-biased perspectives are represented on the committee is vital to its success. We need to rebuild trust between the school district and the public, and transparency and inclusion is the best way to start that process.

Please join us in asking the School Board to give employees a stipend and include an LFT teacher on the Cost Savings Task Force. Here is what you need to do:

1. Join us at School Board Meeting on Thursday, April 20th

2. Call Your School Board Member

Ask them to support a stipend for teachers and school employees before the end of this school year AND ask them to include LFT on the Task Force looking at employee raises. Even if you just leave them a voicemail, they need to hear from teachers and staff across the district.
